LCO has reserved rooms in the Holiday Inn, Goleta
between Nov 11 to 13 for workshop attendees. A limited number of rooms are reserved between Nov 7 to 29 for those who wish to stay longer. Arriving by Air
Santa Barbara has its own airport,
SBA,
which receives flights from the international hubs at Los Angeles LAX and San Francisco SFO. The airport is 3.4 miles from LCOGT, and taxis are always available from outside the terminal. Bear in mind that taxis are required to charge at least $15 when they pick up from the airport. There is also a bus service available from outside the airport terminal (across the road) - please see MTD information below for buses in Santa Barbara. All the main car rental companies also have desks at the airport, which are linked from the airport's website under
'Ground Transportation'.
Flights into SBA are expensive however, so anyone arriving via a flight into LAX should consider taking the Santa Barbara airbus service or the train from LA or San Francisco (described below).
Bus Connections Santa Barbara airbus provide a bus connection from LAX to outside the Hotel MarMonte in downtown Santa Barbara or to Thornwood Drive in Goleta.
More intercity services are available from
Greyhound, who have a station right next door to the Santa Barbara Transit Center, downtown.

Arriving by Train
Passenger rail services in the USA are provided by Amtrak. Two main
services pass through the train station in downtown Santa Barbara - the Coast Starlight, which
runs almost the length of the West Coast and is therefore subject to long delays sometimes, or
the Surfliner (an LA regional service extending out to Santa Barbara, more frequent and more
likely to be on time). With all US train services, its timetable is "flexible" - i.e. can have
serious delays, so we don't advise you rely on it to make a tight connection, but the railroad
does offer some spectacular scenery you don't get from the road, and the coaches are way more
comfortable than the bus (food services are available).
Please note that some trains do stop at the Goleta train station, which is geographically closer to LCOGT, but has far fewer transport connections.

Driving from LAX to Goleta
The trick to driving through the infamous LA traffic is to carefully time your journey through LA to avoid the rushhours. The route between LAX and Goleta is otherwise straight forward. Maps and directions are available here.

Transport Around Santa Barbara
Goleta and Santa Barbara are fairly spread out, so some form of transport to and from your hotel and LCOGT will be needed.
We have a minibus to shuttle everyone to and from the Holiday Inn during the workshop, but should you prefer your own transport, here are some options.
